Boulder Field at Castle Hill

“One way to make the most out of life is to look upon it as an adventure.” – William Feather

Castle Hill became more popular since it was used as the filming location for some of the battle scenes for the movie The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe .

If you want to try bouldering or rock climbing and you don’t have any experience on it, Castle Hill is the perfect spot for you! You can rock climb even if you don’t have the equipment like ropes or buckles. Even without the proper climbing shoes you’ll be fine hahaha! Just be extra careful. It’s good to challenge yourself but know your physical limits and experience.

We arrived at around 10 in the morning and we have the conservation area all to ourselves. I like going outdoors early in the morning to avoid the scorching sun. Plus I love the early morning breeze. 😉

The view’s so beautiful and it looks like he was just photoshopped to be in it!

From the car park, it’s a quick 5 minute walk then you can choose between easy or average route before you can climb unique limestone boulders. The track loops the ancient rock formations.

If you’re a devoted fan of Narnia or maybe you want to experience bouldering, visit Castle Hill. It is located between Darfield and Arthur’s Pass.

When we were just about to leave, a group of people came and we were wondering why they’re wearing semi-formal attire and they carry foldable chairs, blankets and an ice box. Then we saw the bride and groom! Isn’t cool to be wedded on a boulder field for a change instead of a garden or vineyard? Hmmm… 🙂 It is also an amazing location for prenup photo shoot.IMG_0205

Aside from rock climbing, you can also prepare a picnic basket to share with your family or friends and eat at the top of a huge rock or find a spot where you can relax and read a book just like the old lady we passed by when we were leaving.

It was a fun experience climbing, hopping and running in the boulder field!
